About Woolrich
Woolrich may have a modern collection, the brand has a rich and long history. Woolrich was founded in Pennsylvania in 1830, making it the oldest American outdoor clothing brand. Passion for the outdoors was the motto in 1830 and it still is almost two hundred years later.
The core business was making fine and warm wool. In the early days, the production of the Woolrich factory was mainly focused on the necessary active outdoor life such as hunting and construction. This is how the Buffalo Chuck shirt was born. Today, the shirt with a distinctive black-red pattern, inspired by a herd of buffalo, is still an icon of Woolrich and you can see the characteristic print as a subtle detail in various clothing items.
Woolrich's history is closely intertwined with the history of America. For example, the brand was the main supplier to the American army for blankets, clothing and socks during the American Civil War, World War I and World War II. Later in the 1970s, the brand proved itself again when the 'Artic Parka' protected workers during the construction of an oil pipeline in Alaska, where an average temperature of -40 is no exception.
In 1880, Woolrich took the first steps towards making recreational and leisure clothing. Yet it will take more than a hundred years before Woolrich travels the world. It was not until 1989 that the first European store opened in Italy. Later, with the John Rich & Bros collection, Woolrich develops a fashion line specifically for the European market in which outerwear, craftsmanship and urban style come together perfectly. Shoes are also added to the collection. Woolrich combines American and Italian expertise for this purpose. This is reflected in stylish models with technical properties such as Vibram soles and high-quality materials such as calf leather. Although the brand now focuses on luxury fashion, the active outdoor life is not forgotten. The brand still makes warm blankets from pure wool.
